Sideswiped!

Big news today coming from the FIA regarding the Pirelli tire testing with Mercedes AMG. The test occurred in Barcelona between May 15th and 17th. Scuderia Ferrari are also under scrutiny for a joint Pirelli test which occurred in Barcelona on the 23rd and 24th of April. The FIA ruled that the Mercedes test “may constitute a breach of the applicable FIA rules” due to Mercedes’ use of a current 2013 car in the test. Ferrari has been cleared of any blame due to their use of a 2011 car during the tire testing.

A new tire design will be implemented from the Canadian Grand Prix and on, but the big question is how will this affect the results from Monaco? The win and 4th position finish in the principality are points that Mercedes cannot afford to lose, but it seems obvious the advantages which Mercedes gained leading up to race weekend.
